Notice of traffic rerouting in Ennis

Covid 19 Pandemic necessitates traffic rerouting and the closure of roads in Ennis Town Centre so as to allow businesses reopen in line with Government guidelines and to be able to

observe adequate social distancing in the Town.

 

The following is the intended road closures and Traffic rerouting measures for the Town including times and maps.

Traffic re-routing measures

The following is the proposed road closures and Traffic rerouting measures for the Town including times and timelines across the 5 Phases as outlined by Government which are:

Phase 1 Current

Phase 2 June 8th

Phase 3 June 29th

Phase 4 July 20th

Phase 5 August 10th

Measures will apply from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Monday-Saturday) up to August 10th 2020 and will affect the following areas:

  • Abbey Street at the entrance to Abbey Street Carpark
  • Frances Street at the entrance to Abbey Street
  • O'Connell Street & O’Connell Square
  • Bank Place to the exit from Abbey Street Carpark-Old Friary lane
  • Salt House Lane and High Street
  • Cabey's Lane at Market Place
  • Lower Parnell Street from Carmody Street to Cabey's Lane
  • Woodquay can be accessed from the carpark side

Summerhill will be altered to a two-way traffic system,with access to River Lane from the river side and Fahy's Lane from Summerhill.

Alternative routes around the town will be via the Inner Ring Road (Clare Road –Carmody Street-Cornmarket Street-Mill Road-Maid of Eireann Roundabout-Sandfield Park-Hospital Roundabout-Gort Road-Lifford Rd-Tulla Road- Knoxes Bridge-Clonroad-Clonroadmore-St Flannan’s Terrace-Captain Macs Cross-Clare Road)

Deliveries

Deliveries will be able to access the restricted area from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (all delivery vehicles to exit restricted area by 11.30a.m.). Additional loading bays will be provided in Friars Walk car park (near the Museum) and Abbey Street car park (near Brewery Lane) to assist unloading outside these hours. There will also be four Click and Collect 15minute time limited parking spaces provided in the Abbey Street carpark (near Brewery Lane) and Friars Walk Carpark (near the Museum) to assist the collection of purchases from businesses.

Parking

To meet the social distancing Government requirements, it is necessary to adjust existing parking and street layouts to provide additional width on Market Street by adjusting the perpendicular parking, removing the parking on Bank Place from the AIB to the Post Office, adjusting the perpendicular parking on Woodquay from Parnell Street to the car park access road. It is intended to trial Priority Parking areas in a number of locations in close proximity to the business areas to assist vulnerable members of the public to access these areas. The Priority Parking is intended to be located in Abbey Street car park, Parnell Street car park, Friars Walk car park, O’Connell Street at the Cathedral and Market Place (standard time limits and charges will apply)

Traffic re-routing measures will also impact on the on-street car parking in those areas.
