Water safety

Clare Water Safety educate people in water safety best practices. We develop public awareness campaigns to promote necessary attitudes, rescue skills and behaviour to prevent drownings and water related accidents.

The Irish Water Safety lifeguards provide full time cover at the locations below during the months of July and August, daily 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.:

  • Spanish Point
  • Lahinch
  • Fanore
  • Bishops Quarter, Ballyvaughan
  • Whitestrand, Miltown Malbay
  • Seafield Quilty
  • Whitestrand Doonbeg
  • Kilkee
  • Cappagh Pier, Kilrush
  • Mountshannon
  • Ballycuggeran, Killaloe

Lahinch, Kilkee, Fanore, Spanish Point, White Strand Miltown Malbay, White Strand Doongeg, Cappagh, Mounthsannon and Ballycuggeran have lifeguard cover from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during weekends in June and on the June Bank Holiday, these beaches also have cover weekends until mid September.

Great credit is due to the many volunteers who devoted their time to teaching swimming and water safety to huge numbers of children. It is hoped that many more young people will continue to learn swimming and life saving techniques, ensuring that County Clare will be able to call on Lifeguards of the highest quality to protect the beaches and amenity areas throughout the county for many years to come.
